Immerse Yourself In The Arts

on the Cedar To Green Rivers Trail In Maple Valley, Washington

MVCAC's 2021 Paint By Tunnels Mural Project

Maple Valley Creative Arts Council, Maple Valley, Washington
The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council is pleased to present its SECOND community mural project!

Partnering with the City of Maple Valley, King County Parks & Recreation Department, the Maple Valley Historical Society, The Maple Valley Community Center, and the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation, the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council (MVCAC) will make local and regional history stories interactive and publicly available through a community participatory event.

The 2021 project, led by Brenda Chrystie, will consist of a new mural by Maple Valley resident and artist Jackie Riedel.  Inspired by Maple Valley’s History, the new mural will be located in the tunnel on the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail under Witte Road, near the Maple Valley Community Center, Historical Society, and Library. We know that history takes on incredible significance when framed within hands-on interactive experiences. A mandatory Paint By Tunnel design component will be paint-by-numbers areas to facilitate public participation during the one-day community event.

The community event will be held on August 28-29, 2021. CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION AND TO SIGNUP TO VOLUNTEER.

MVCAC's 2019 Paint By Tunnels Mural Project

Mid 2018, the City of Maple Valley hosted a For The Love Of Maple Valley event attended by community members. During this event, a group brainstormed the idea of creating murals in the five tunnels on the trail that runs through the City of Maple Valley. The idea was to create an annual community event. However, taking on five tunnels is a daunting task!

Located in the tunnel on the Cedar to Green Rivers Trail in Maple Valley under Witte Road just east of Maple Valley Black Diamond Highway, Brenda's 2019 mural speaks to the many nearby Arts organizations and businesses: Maple Valley Creative Arts Council, Dace's Rock 'N More Music Academy, Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, STEAMboat Studio, Voice In The Valley Music Studio, and From Page To Stage Theater Productions. Ms. Chrystie utilized the corrugated surface to depict letters of the alphabet in sound-wave form. The letters spell calls-to-action, when carried out in the tunnel, visitors experience echo and the amplification of sound.
